Trinidad and Tobago and its challenge to offset potential shortage in gas supply
Trinidad and Tobago is the largest LNG exporter country in Latin America, taking advantage in the past of its abundant offshore natural gas reserves. Nevertheless, gas field sizes typically are consistent and modest in a global context and additional discoveries above 5 Tcf of recoverable gas resource are considered to be unlikely. Looking forward, the scenario can be unsettling as Trinidad and Tobago is projected to face a steep decline in domestic gas supply by the mid-2020s. Two important material opportunities exist that could arrest the decline and offset potential shortage, yet costs and above-ground issues require attention.
