The Thuraya-1 Well with Dana Gas
Within the next 24 months, Africa will play host to several High Impact Wells, one of which will be located within the Levantine Basin offshore Egypt.
In Block 6, Dana Gas' Thuraya 1 well will target dual objectives: two low relief four-way dip closures in the Oligocene basin floor fan sandstones and a Cretaceous-(Paleogene?) 800-m vertical reef complex analogous to the Zohr field. With a potential of several Tcf of wet gas, the prospect to be drilled is strategically positioned to feed Egypt's East Med. Gas Hub and fill the decline curve of the region's producing fields in a few years.
As the well's technical design studies get underway, Dana Gas CEO Dr. Patrick Allman-Ward talks to IHS Markit's Cyril Ruchonnet, Associate Director for African Regional Research, about this potential new game changer for Egypt's gas sector.
