Published February 1966

The technology and economics of wet process phosphoric acid is changing rapidly. Production units are growing in size and efficiency. Producers are moving toward greater integration of operations and easier access to raw materials. New processes are appearing to produce, concen trate, and upgrade wet process phosphoric acid. Growing chemical markets are increasing opportunities for by-product recovery. Detailed capital and production costs are estimated for the traditional dihydrate route to phosphoric acid, the more recent semihydrate-dihydrate scheme, and for the still developing anhydrite leach and hydrochloric acid processes . The costs, advantages, and disadvantages of methods to produce higher acid concentrations are examined.
