The present report is concerned solely with the production of vinyl chloride monomer. In order to keep the scope of this study within reasonable bounds, it was possible to take cognizance of only part of the literature on the chemistry and technology of related chlorohydrocarbons that is applicable in some degree to vinyl chloride production. Moreover, it was necessary to limit evaluation only to those parts of an over-all vinyl chloride system that deal directly with vinyl chloride production and only to vinyl chloride processes that do not yield other chlorinated hydrocarbons in major proportions.
