Thermoplastic Elastomers

Thermoplastic elastomers are polymers that combine the flexibility and impact resistance of rubber with the strength and easy processability of thermoplastics. Most other thermoplastics have limited flexibility, and when additives are used to increase flexibility, the tensile strenth suffers. Ordinary flexible rubbers, thermoplastic when first prepared, are cured (vulcanized) to develop toughness and strength, and are then no longer thermoplastic. The thermoplatic elastomers treated in this reort can be repeatedly melted, processed, and resolidified, and the solid polymer retains its elastomeric properties.
