This report is asupplement to the Process Economics Program Report No. 51 entitled Reinforced Plastics. Report No. 51, issued in August, 1969, reviewed the industry status of the reinforced plastics markets, the principles of fibrous reinforcement of plastics, the general properties and factors affecting these properties, the resins, the reinforcements, and the fabrication and production methods (i.e., compression molding, lay-ups and spray-ups, rotational molding, centrifugal casting, filament winding, injection molding, continuous lamination, and pultrusion. It also presented cost estimates for these fabrication and production methods.
This supplement reviews the commercial and technical developments in reinforced plastics that took place from about mid-1969 to about mid-1973. Also, it presents the cost estimates on the productions of sheet molding compounds and fiber-reinforced polyurethane foams.
