This study, which will be issued in two parts, covers the processes for manufacture of caprolactam. Part I covered the general nature of the industry and the evaluation of three routes: SNIA Viscosa, Toyo Rayon, and Nitrocyclohexane. Some of the process steps have been covered in the Adipic Acid Report previously issued, some are covered here, and others will be covered in Part II. The general nature of the industry is presented in Part I of the study, The polymerization of caprolactam to Nylon 6 is not covered because of the magnitude of this study on producing the monomer.
